JOB BRIEF
As a DBA Specialist at Amelco UK Ltd, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and performance optimisation of our PostgreSQL databases. You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of our database systems, particularly in Kubernetes, Snowflake and Amazon RDS environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Database Management: design, deploy, and manage PostgreSQL databases in Kubernetes clusters and Amazon RDS instances.
- Performance Optimization: monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement performance tuning strategies to ensure optimal database performance.
- Security: Implement and maintain database security measures, including access controls, encryption, and compliance with security best practices.
- Backup and Recovery: develop and maintain robust backup and recovery strategies to minimise data loss and downtime.
- Scaling: Work on database scaling strategies to accommodate growing data needs and traffic.
- High Availability: Implement and manage high availability solutions such as replication and failover.
- Automation: create and maintain automation scripts for routine database tasks.
- Documentation: document database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaboration: collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and system administrators, to ensure seamless integration of database systems.
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience.
- Experience with database management in Kubernetes clusters.
- Proficiency in Amazon RDS and its various database engines.
- Strong SQL skills and ability to write complex SQL queries.
- Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimisation.
- Proficiency in Python for automation tasks.
- Familiarity with database security best practices.
- Experience with backup and recovery procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
- Certification in PostgreSQL or related database technologies (optional but a plus).
