An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven individual to lead the Quantitative Modelling Team, owning all things Maths and Data Science to help deliver a first-class sportsbook product.
JOB BRIEF
Your role will be to lead and build out a team responsible for developing quantitative mathematical models and tools required for trading and calculating odds and probabilities across different sports and markets. The role will be varied day-to-day and key responsibilities will be:
- Manage Resources: Optimise business objectives and team tasks in ongoing projects through effective resource management of the Quantitative Modelling team.
- Lead Line Management: Direct the Quantitative Modelling team, overseeing all aspects of line management.
- Represent Team: Communicate complex mathematical concepts and results to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner, acting as the Quantitative Modelling team’s representative in project meetings.
- Develop Models: Create and implement mathematical models for calculating odds across different sports and markets.
- Collaborate for Accuracy: Work alongside developers, traders, and analysts to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our odds and pricing.
- Research and Refine: Continuously update and improve our models to reflect current market conditions accurately.
- Analyse Large Datasets: Utilise statistical software to extract insights and inform our pricing decisions.
- Maintain Documentation: Ensure comprehensive modelling documentation is up-to-date, enabling new starters to quickly become productive members of the team.
- Promote Best Practices: Champion best software development practices, focusing on code management and structure to enhance team efficiency and product quality.
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded professional, possessing not only a deep passion for and understanding of quantitative sports modelling but also complemented by strategic insight, operational excellence, and proven leadership skills. We are looking for someone who can drive innovation and lead our team to new heights in the sportsbook market:
- Educational Background: Possess a degree (PhD, MSc, BSc) in a STEM subject or demonstrate equivalent numerate and quantitative skills through proven experience.
- Leadership Experience: Proven track record in a leadership or senior role, managing teams to solve complex analytics and modelling problems, ideally within the sports betting industry.
- Modelling Expertise: Deep understanding and experience in modelling, probability, and statistics, including time series predictions, machine learning, and Bayesian inference.
- Technical Proficiency: Highly proficient in Python/R and other relevant programming languages, capable of tackling diverse analytical challenges.
- Mentorship Capability: Ability to mentor and elevate the team’s performance through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
- Communication and Collaboration: Excellent presentation, documentation, and time management skills, with a strong ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and pragmatic problem-solving skills, with proficiency in working with large datasets.
- Team Collaboration: Effective communication skills and a collaborative spirit for working with various stakeholders.
- Sporting Passion: A keen interest in American and major European sports, underlining a genuine passion for the sports betting landscape.
The role is London based, but consideration will be given for hybrid/remote working for the right candidate.
